Breast Augmentation/Enlargement: A procedure which involves the use of breast implants via Silicone or Saline to enhance the volume and fullness of the breast. Breast Augmentation is performed by inserting a breast implant behind breast tissue or above the breast muscle. This is an essential decision for the patient because the look and feel of the breast will vary depending on the use of Silicone or Saline. Implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They can be placed in different positions through a variety of incision locations, which are described below.
Areola - With this technique, the surgeon will make an incision around the darker area of the skin surrounding the nipple. Making the incision in this precise area will aid the scar in blending in for minimal visability. Both silicone and saline implants can be inserted using this method. This technique is preferred by doctors.
Transaxillary - this incision is made in the armpit and can only be done with Saline implants. This method is also dangerous because of limited visibility of breast for the doctor.
Inframmary - A small incision is made in the crease of the breast. Since the breast tissue is fully visible the outcome is better. This technique is preferred by doctors. Silicone and Saline implants can be inserted using this method.
TUBA - also known as transumbilical breast augmentation. A small incision is made in the belly button through which the implants are inserted. This technique is also dangerous since the breast tissue is not visible. This technique can only be done with saline implants.
Breast Lift: A procedure which involves repositioning the breast to a higher and firmer position. Excess skin is removed and tissue surrounding the breast is tightened to support the new breast contour.
Breast Reconstruction: A procedure that involves rebuilding the shape of the breast.
