Breast Implants: Silicone Versus Saline
Most women feel that silicone breast implants have a more realistic
feel. The best way to describe the feel of a saline breast implant,
as we have heard it explained is similar to the sensation of a water
balloon. Silicone implants generally feel more like a woman’s
natural breast tissue.
On the other hand, saline implants have placement benefits.
Compared to silicone implants, saline implants can be inserted
through the armpit, the belly button, under the breast or the
outside of the areola. Silicone implants are typically placed under
the breast, and they are already filled with gel. This is why
surgeons need to make a bigger incision when inserting the
implant. Saline implants are inserted using a smaller incision as
the shell is empty before it is inserted and then filled with saline
once its placed in the correct location.
At Breast Beauty we want our patients to make informed decisions
that are right for them. We encouraged our patients to read up on
breast implants saline versus silicone so they are confident they
are making a decision that is right for themselves.
